A LOCAL’S KNOWLEDGE
Marbella Beach: where Axel caught his first wave
For Axel, Marbella is much more than a place to teach. He grew up here, caught his very first wave on this beach and has been surfing it ever since.
After decades in these waves, he knows how Marbella changes with the tides, swell and sandbanks. This local knowledge is part of every lesson, helping you understand the ocean as well as improve your surfing.
Lessons mainly take place at Marbella Beach in Biarritz. Axel confirms the exact meeting point and lesson time according to the conditions of the day.

How long does a surf lesson last?
Both private lessons and small group lessons last 1.5 hours. The session includes the briefing, safety instructions, coaching in the water and personalized feedback.
Your surfboard and wetsuit are included in the lesson. Axel adapts the session to your level and the conditions of the day.
What should I bring to my surf lesson?
Bring a swimsuit, a towel and some water. Sunscreen is also recommended, especially during sunny days.
You do not need to bring your own surfing equipment. Axel provides the surfboard and wetsuit suitable for your session.
Can I surf if I have never tried it before?
Absolutely. No previous surfing experience is necessary. Axel teaches beginners step by step, starting with the basics and essential safety rules.
You will learn how to use the board, understand the waves, practise standing up and hopefully catch your first waves during the session.
Do I need to know how to swim?
Yes. You should know how to swim and feel reasonably comfortable in the water. You do not need to be an expert swimmer, but basic swimming ability is important for safety.
If you are unsure about your swimming ability, contact Axel before booking so he can advise you on the appropriate session.
Can children and families join a surf lesson?

For a family session, tell Axel how many people will participate, the children’s ages and everyone’s surfing experience. He will recommend a suitable arrangement.
Where do the surf lessons take place?

What happens if the surf conditions are not suitable?
Your safety always comes first. Surf conditions depend on the tides, wind, swell and the characteristics of the beach.
If the conditions are not appropriate for your level, Axel may suggest a different time or postpone the lesson. He will discuss the available options with you.
What is the difference between private and small group lessons?
A private lesson offers more individual attention and is especially suitable if you want to focus on specific techniques or progress at your own pace.
Small group lessons are ideal if you enjoy learning alongside other surfers in a friendly environment, while still receiving coaching and feedback.
Both formats last 1.5 hours and include surfboard and wetsuit.
